Section 8 gives you vouchers that you can use to secure an affordable rental rate at a safe and sanitary place. This housing assistance program is designed for low-income households, elderly individuals and those with disabilities. To qualify, your income cannot exceed the defined limit of the program. If you are qualified, you will likely be placed on a waiting list due to the high demand for housing assistance. Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) are responsible for guiding you through the application process and notifying you when homes are available. They also select names from the waiting list to receive housing assistance. Learn more about Section 8 in our free guide.
